A sad and significant day in social media yesterday as news arrives of the end of Kate Modern and Scrabulous on Facebook!
Bebo kicked off Season Two of its smash soap with a classic twist – killing off namesake Kate. As reported in the Media Guardian, the series will become a whodunnit as Bebo users follow the murder storyline – and get busy posting RIP messages to the social-networking superstar.
Meanwhile, and much more worrying to the Shiny Red office, is the threatened end of favourite Facebook app Scrabulous. US Scrabble owner Hasbro has set its legal team to task – much to its folly think many, including Brand Strategy Magazine which claims:
“It has taken the idea of a game to be played slowly on Sunday afternoons and made it sexy”
As ReadWriteWeb reports, Scrabulous addicts often admit to buying the original Hasbro board game and the cult status of a top ten Facebook app can only indicate the creation of a new generation of Scrabble devotees – evidence of which being the ‘Save Scrabulous’ Facebook group which has grown to over 13 thousand members in the last 24 hours.
Shiny Red have their Scrabulous playing fingers crossed.
