This week, mobile network operators 3 and O2 announced that they will merge their user generated video clips sites into one joint portal named EyeVibe. This move follows both companies having previously launched their own UGC video sites – 3’s service was called SeeMeTV while O2’s LookAtMe launched in July ‘06.
The idea is that EyeVibe will bring together the best features of the two services, combining the existing communities and creating a cross-network user generated platform, where subscribers can make money from uploading video content.
While some think this is a great idea, sceptics are worried that EyeVibe would not be able to compete against the giants YouTube. With an ambitious plan to become the biggest and brightest mobile community in the UK, only time will tell if EyeVibe can suceed.
