I was once one of the sceptics who could not see the benefits or hearing regular updates of what people are eating/not eating/drinking/looking at on the internet. However, I am now yet another Twitter fan, trying to explain the advantages to non-Twitterers. Thanks to Darren Rowse at ProBlogger for this video which I think goes some way to showing why people like it so much:
I was introduced to Twitter over a year ago, but it is only recently I have finally begun to speak! If you look down the comments on ProBlogger’s post you’ll notice that I am not the only one who has been lurking in the shadows for a while. Unlike social network sites like where you sign up, make friends and go, adapting to Twitter seems like a longer, more thought out process.
I compared this to having a strategy behind it. Twitter is not like a social network, where you can see my personality though many different aspects on my page. With Twitter, my identity is largely to what I say. My colleague Jaz also helpfully pointed out that people approach Twitter much how we advise companies to approach social media ““ you need to watch and track the space before you enter in feet first and regret it.
Once you have accepted Twitter, there’s a vast range of resources available to maximise the tool and if you really get in trouble it appears to get you out of jail too!

I too started as a Twitter denier. Addiction soon takes hold though.
As was i. As was Jaz too come to think of it. Twitter’s ace – don’t think it is big enough for marketing opps like Facebook but it’s good to get to know people like Mr Brain that you wouldn’t normally come into contact with
There are some sectors where twitter is very useful for building relationships.
The key to seeing how far this will go is the point where adoption moves from being progressive to exponential. As can be seen from Compete, the ‘tipping point’ has not hyet arrived. http://siteanalytics.compete.com/twitter.com/?metric=uv
[...] 28 April 2008 at 8:31 am (Social Networks, Twitter, Web/Tech) (Twitter) WiredPen really isn’t All Twitter, All The Time, although it might feel like it lately! I just discovered this great little tribute to Twitter at ShinyRed … and of course, I found Shiny Red via Twitter. [...]
Nice to know that I wasn’t the only lurker!
Yes I agree with you all, it is a great way to meet and build relationships with people you wouln’t usually come into contact with and the more you use it the more you can get out of it!
It will be interesting to see if Twitter evolves and then becomes to hectic like some of the social networking sites or if it stays simple but useful.
[...] into it, I do not think that charging people to use Twitter will be the correct approach. I have mentioned before that many people experiment with Twitter for a long time before actually using it – to charge [...]
