Tiger Woods & ‘The Jesus Shot’ go viral

This is a great example of a ‘viral’ which as we’ve mentioned before, is a word that gets thrown about too easily! But it’s a charming, high-quality, witty piece of content from EA with a natural talkability factor which has seen it discussed far and wide from gamers to PRs and trendspotters.

Fans, including Levinator, spotted a glitch in their PGA Tour 08 Golf game and posted it on Youtube – the clip from the game appeared to show Tiger walking on water to take a shot:

So kudos to EA who created and posted the response below to Levinator – and his thousands of views – featuring the real Tiger Woods:

Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins at Mashable sums it up best:

“Tracking Twitter and running Google Alerts for negative press from the blogosphere and the general populace of the social media set is one thing, but if you want to live the Chinese cliche of turning danger into opportunity, this is the way to do it. EA has successfully navigated what could become a negative demerit amongst the hardcore fans of the game franchise into a widely talked about marketing move.

It’s all about caring what your customers think and being smart about how you respond. All of us, myself included, can learn something here.”

Mark’s right, it’s real, funny and shows fans that EA’s been listening. 1.5 million views and counting, very cool and very clever.
