Shiny Media’s Fashion Editor, Gemma Cartwright, has criticised Grazia magazine for declaring blogging ‘not hot’ in a recent issue. Cartwright took issue with them basing their assumption on Lindsey Lohan giving up her blog.
Grazia’s opinion echoed recent articles in the Guardian and The Times which estimate that 200 million personal blogs have been abandoned by their owners, but in particular highlighted celebs who have stopped blogging.
Cartwright points out, ‘Personal blogs might be dwindling as people lose interest in updating (let alone reading) them, but specialist ones definitely aren’t', also citing falling newspaper sales and magazine closures as readers shift loyalty online.
Blogging still has huge potential to be realised commercially and personal blogging is just the tip of the iceberg. It may just be that we’re moving towards quality over quantity as the intial blogging “fad” dies down and online audiences become more discerning.
