Interesting, diverse and vibrant morning here at Le Web 3 in Paris – Europe’s premier internet event. First of all we heard Niklas Zennström, founder of Skype and Kazaa, talk about how “you don’t need to be a big company to make it in Web 2.0 environment.” He gave all European entrepreneurs hope when he pointed out that Skype – now a global brand owned by eBay – initially launched in just three European territories: Sweden, Estonia and Denmark.
Unlike the Web 1.0 bubble, Zennström said: “Today we have the infrastructure built up, it’s now possible to build up a sustainable business on the internet which wasn’t possible before.” Zennström also talked briefly about his new venture, The Venice Project, “which will take TV and the internet and mix it together.”
